The Bronte Sportive, in aid of Sue Ryder, will return on 28 July 2013.
Test your cycling stamina on one of five challenging routes winding around tourist landmarks in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside and include a number of section used by the Tour de France 2014. Based on you postcode your entry fee and any sponsorship money that you manage to raise for us will go to supporting your local Sue Ryder care centre.
The Bronte Sportive routes
There are five routes, offering something for a range of abilities ranging from a leisurely 4.8 miles to the infamous Route 5, Bronte Monster.
All routes start at Leeds City College in Keighley. Routes 2 - 5 finish back at the same spot where you'll be able to refuel with a complementary barbecue.
*Routes 3, 4 and 5 may be tweaked slightly to incorporate even more of the Tour de France 2014 route therefore these routes may be subject to slight changes.
Can you tackle the Bronte Monster?
Route 5 is the infamous Bronte Monster. Over the challenging 88 mile route, you'll tackle 21 hill climbs, rising over 8530 feet cumulatively. Gold standard requires finishing in under 5hrs 30 mins.
Said by many former participants to be the hardest sportive in the UK – will you agree?
Can you pedal faster than a steam train?
We measure rider standards against the speed of a steam train going up and down the Keighley and Worth Valley line, including station stops and refuelling with coal and water.
Route 1 just has to beat the train for Gold, but routes 2 -5 are measured as follows:

Bronze – go just 5mph slower than the train

Silver – match the speed of the train

Gold – go 5mph faster than the train
For Route 2, Gold standard means completing in under 2 hours, bronze means completing in under 3 hours.

Bronte sportive 2012
Thank you to all of those who took part in the Bronte Sportive 2012. The sunshine helped raise a record charitable income of £7,000 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.
